Meet Avenidas Nuevas Counseling

Founded in 2020, Avenidas Nuevas Counseling (AVN) was created with a commitment to providing compassionate, accessible, and culturally responsive mental health care. Our bilingual and bicultural approach recognizes that culture, identity, family, and life experiences can shape how we understand mental health, healing, and personal growth.

We welcome individuals from all backgrounds and strive to create an inclusive therapeutic environment where each person feels respected, understood, and valued.

Individualized Care

AVN provides confidential individual therapy for adolescents ages 14 and older and adults navigating anxiety, depression and mood concerns, trauma and PTSD, substance use and recovery, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, life transitions, chronic pain, emotional regulation difficulties, and other life challenges.

Treatment is individualized around each person's needs, strengths, values, experiences, and personal goals. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, therapy is tailored to the individual and where they are in their healing process.

Our Approach to Therapy

Our trauma-informed approach incorporates evidence-based practices, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and other therapeutic approaches when clinically appropriate.

Therapy may focus on understanding patterns, processing difficult experiences, strengthening emotional regulation, developing practical coping skills, increasing self-awareness, and building resilience.

Why “Avenidas Nuevas”?

Avenidas Nuevas translates to “New Avenues.”

The name reflects AVN's approach to counseling: creating space to better understand and process your experiences, consider different perspectives, develop practical tools, and identify meaningful opportunities for change.

Through this process, individuals may find greater peace and comfort with past or present experiences, develop a sense of closure where possible, and discover new avenues for moving forward.

Flexible Access to Care

We offer in-person appointments in Albuquerque and telehealth services throughout New Mexico, with services available in English and Spanish.

Meet Our Clinician

At Avenidas Nuevas Counseling, we believe a strong therapeutic relationship is an important part of effective therapy. Our approach combines evidence-based treatment with compassionate, culturally responsive care, while recognizing each person's individual needs, experiences, strengths, and goals.

Since 2007, I have worked in the social service and mental health fields, supporting adolescents and adults from diverse backgrounds. My experience includes community mental health, psychiatric care, youth services, substance use treatment, and private practice. These experiences have shaped my belief that effective therapy should consider the whole person—including their history, relationships, culture, identity, strengths, and lived experiences.

As a bilingual Hispanic/Latino therapist, I provide services in English and Spanish and recognize the important role that culture and family can play in how we understand mental health, seek support, and approach change. I strive to provide a welcoming and nonjudgmental environment where you can feel heard, understood, and comfortable being yourself.

My clinical work is grounded in a trauma-informed approach, and I work with individuals experiencing trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression and mood concerns, substance use and recovery, relationship difficulties, chronic pain, life transitions, emotional regulation difficulties, and other life challenges. Treatment is individualized and may incorporate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and other evidence-based approaches based on your needs and treatment goals.

I view therapy as a collaborative process. Our work may involve developing a better understanding of patterns and experiences, processing difficult events, strengthening emotional awareness and coping skills, and identifying practical ways to create meaningful change. My role is to provide support, clinical guidance, and a space where we can work toward the goals that are important to you.
